VOLO Athletics Italy for Africa

Football for Africa was a huge success! We held a two-day tournament in a sports complex in the eastern part of Rome. There were ten schools in the boys and girls events, with special guests from Istanbul, Malvern in the UK and the International School of Naples joining the best teams from the city of Rome.

All participants received an organic cotton t-shirt branded with the event and sponsor’s logos; a BPA-free recycled plastic water bottle; and there were awards for the top three in each league, the MVP’s, the best goalkeepers, the top scorers, and Fair Play awards for teams.

All matches were refereed by professionals from the Roman Association of Referees and supported by student volunteers.

The finals were very close games! The St. Stephen’s boys’ team beat the Swiss School of Rome 2-1 and the St. Stephen’s girls’ team beat the Rome Academy A team 1-0.

The event was sponsored by the Italian Football Federation, Serie A Giants Juventus FC, SS Lazio and AS Roma, the Alleanza Sportiva Sports Federation and the Roman Insalata Ricca restaurants.

To this day, we have raised over 5000 Euros for Kenya and Uganda, and collected boxes of new sports materials for the schools in Kenya.

All of the participants were enthusiastic of the equipment provided by VOLO Athletics and the finals balls were awarded to the top scorers of the tournaments.
